Capsule 2023 Volunteering Roundup
Capsule believes in the power of giving back.
It’s why we’re proud wearers of the B Corp badge – and why, every year, each member of team Capsule gets 10 (yes 10!!) volunteer days to support a cause close to their heart.
ESG isn’t a buzzword for us – it’s the way we do business. In 2023, we weren’t afraid to get our hands dirty for a good cause – or five!
Join us for a round-up of our favourite moments from a year filled with meaningful environmental and social action.
Powering change, one tree at a time
We kicked things off by venturing deep into the Cotswolds for the second year running to expand what we’ve come to call the “Capsule Forest”. With the help of Protect Earth, we planted over 1,000 trees.
An organisation dedicated to reforestation and land conservation, Protect Earth’s vision for a greener future aligns closely with our own.
Together, we’re contributing to vital projects such as flood risk reduction and improved air quality.
Keeping the Capsule Forest flourishing
Fast-forward to May, and we rolled up our sleeves and headed back out into the fields to check up on our newly planted saplings.
Mulching, pest control, ensuring the stakes and guards stayed in place… it wasn’t the most glamorous of days out, but nothing beats that feeling you get when you see the tangible impact of your efforts.
Here’s to the Capsule Forest standing tall!
A day out in nature’s office
September sunshine came through for us as we swapped our computer screens for the countryside, visiting Horsbere Nature Reserve to clear the recently cut grass and make way for wildflower planting.
There was plenty of gossip, a bit of cake… and a lot of rake.
October’s blooming glow-up
September’s hard work paid off in October, when we returned to Horsbere to finish what we started – supporting Gloucester City Council rangers by getting wildflower plug plants in the ground and sowing seeds to promote a more sustainable – and colourful – ecosystem.
New wellies at the ready
It was back to Horsbere for the Capsulites again in November, with a few members of the team joining forces to clear willow trees obstructing waterflow through the nature reserve’s overflow area.
Some of us even bought new wellies for the occasion!
Remembering and mentoring
When we weren’t out in the wilderness, we were supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in local supermarkets and sharing our wisdom with ambitious individuals through mentorship programmes.
Capsule’s resident marketing whizz, Victoria McDonnell, received this feedback for her involvement in Up World’s Up Club:
I feel incredibly fortunate to have been matched with Victoria through the Up Club mentoring scheme.
Polly Robertson, Director of Product and Marketing at Kontor
She is an exceptional mentor with a wealth of experience in marketing, and I cannot thank her enough for the invaluable guidance and support she provided me with over the past year.
Victoria helped me to develop my managerial skills and navigate a transitional phase in my role, which has been huge in my professional growth.
Champions of sustainability
Being crowned the ESG Broker Champion for sustainability at the UK Broker Awards was an amazing recognition of our team’s efforts, and it has fuelled us to strive for even more ESG greatness in 2024.
Already, we’re gearing up to contribute to an even broader range of causes encompassing support for the vulnerable, homeless, elderly, and younger generations.
We’ll also be encouraging our team to think about their own wellbeing – looking into mental health and mindfulness.
Partner with Capsule for change
We encourage you to join us on this journey. If you’re interested in getting involved with our volunteering initiatives, please reach out to Chris Birch – Capsule’s Culture Lead – who’ll be more than happy to explore potential collaborations.
We’re always eager to support more causes and make an impact on the lives of those who need it most. And if you’re curious about our ongoing efforts, follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram, where we’ll keep sharing inspiring stories. Watch that space!
